Your connection to people and resources in the Wilmington, N.C. film industry
The first 3D movie to film in Wilmington will always be "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," which wrapped last month. But it can no long hold its prestige as the only 3D movie to be shot here.
According to the Wilmington Regional Film Commission's website, a film tentatively titled "PDD" is coming to the area for filming.
A quick internet search identifies the movie as, "Piranha 3DD," the sequel to last year's "Piranha 3D," which reportedly had an estimated budget of $24 million.
The 2010 Piranha movie is about prehistoric piranha that wreak havoc on spring breakers near Lake Victoria.
This new film is rumored to star Tara Reid ("The Big Lebowski," "American Pie"), Aubrey O'Day ("Making the Band"), musician Lil' Wayne and Neil Hopkins (ABC TV's "Lost").
"PDD" joins several other projects in town – Warner Specialty movie "A Cinderella Story," ABC Family movie "Teen Spirit," The CW's "One Tree Hill," ABC Studios pilot "Revenge," Warner Bros. pilot "Hart of Dixie" and independent feature film "Hick."
The StarNews will follow up on this story as more information becomes available.
