WilmOnFilm Network

Your connection to people and resources in the Wilmington, N.C. film industry

You might be a film director, a producer, a cameraman or an actor. You could also be an investor, a hair or makeup artist or just interested in films made in Southeastern N.C. Whatever your role, this social network can benefit you in many ways.
The StarNews has a feature called Wilm on Film on StarNewsOnline.com, but we thought there was something lacking in the local film industry - a way to connect to others and share ideas. Most of you probably know the film industry is a word-of-mouth world. We'd like to provide a place for you to exchange ideas, job openings, film news and anything else related to your interests in local films.
WilmonFilm.com is free to join and works similar to other social networking sites, such as Facebook. Here, you can upload clips or trailers of your work, create a blog to talk about your production, search and post jobs, create a group, post events of screenings, wrap parties or other things going on in the film industry, and virtually meet others who live or film in the area.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shannan Bowen, StarNews social media journalist

Hello! And thanks to everyone who agreed to be our guinea pigs for a week. We want you to tell us what you like and don't like, what you need and don't need on this site.

I thought I'd share a few ideas on how you guys can make WilmOnFilm.com work best for you. Here goes . . .

If you're an independent film producer: You could post your casting calls here, ask others for ideas on hard-to-find locations, post your shorts here for peer feedback, discuss hot topics such as film incentives and obscenity laws, barter for equipment with other filmmakers, look for cast -- you name it. The world is your oyster. Or at least this site is.

If you're a talent or casting aget: Create your own blog here and and post your clients' headshots as a kind of mini-resume. If you represent actors with a special talent such as fluency in a foreign language or professional fire-eating skills, let filmmakers know by posting it here, too.

If you're a film school or film program: Students can use this site to look for jobs, advertise their own talents and show off their latest project. You never know who might see it and offer you a job. Post up-coming screenings of your work. Instructors can brag about your program's accomplishments, awards and alumni (the ones making millions of dollars now or working with John Travolta).

If you're a film festival: Post notices about deadlines and fees. Tell others when your festival will be and what they will get out of it by either submitting their work or just showing up to watch a few blocks of shorts.

If you're a local crew member: Keep up with the latest film news in the Wilmington area, check for jobs, discuss film-related issues, post photos of that incredible set you built. If you work in props, use this site to ask around about where to find that elusive 1950s cigarette ash tray. Tell us what's on your mind.

If you're a film studio: Keep the local film community updated on your services and accomplishments.

This list goes on and on . . .

And don't forget, we'll soon be selling ads on this site to local businesses who provide film industry-related services, so browse our ad section, too. You might find a deal that will make even your production accountant smile.

I'm always available to hear your comments and suggestions about the site, so don't be afraid to shoot me an e-mail or give me a call.
