- I've worked at the StarNews as a features writer for the past nine years. And I've covered a lot of beats -- everything from music and nightlife to outdoor adventure and, of course, the local film community.
I took over this beat after the previous film reporter left to travel the world. But I wasn't given this job just because I was the only one available. (I wasn't available, really. I had to stop gathering nighclub news to get this gig.)
I've lived around film folks my entire life. My sister is a 20-plus year veteran of the industry. She's done a lot of work in Wilmington and even more elsewhere in the country. And I grew up with that around me.
Back in my high school days she even hired me to work on a few shows during the summers -- "Matlock" and the made-for-TV movie starring John Ritter, "Holy Joe."
I spent time in the production office at EUE/Screen Gems and, once in awhile, on location.
So I know the people, I know the business and I knew I wanted this beat.
