Check out this article from the Charlotte Observer: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/04/14/2223058/is-concord-casting-call-for-hunger.html Rumor around town is the films will be made in Charlotte and Asheville. Barbeque fundraiser to help Swamp Logger Bo Malpass at Craft residence, 28255 N.C. 210 in Currie, Pender County

March 19, 2011 from 11am to 5pm
While watching "Swamp Loggers" on The Discovery Channel, you can see some pretty tough men and women wrangling big hardwoods as though they were toothpicks.Even with heavy machinery, it's still a blue collar job that requires quite a bit of muscle. But loggers are human, and an infection caused by a simple gallbladder attack about three weeks ago has put one swamp logger, Milton "Bo" Malpass (aka Hotrod), in the intensive-care unit at a local hospital.A fundraiser will be held Saturday March 19…See More

Profile Information

Job title or description
Local film industry reporter.
About me
I've worked at the StarNews as a features writer for the past nine years. And I've covered a lot of beats -- everything from music and nightlife to outdoor adventure and, of course, the local film community.
I took over this beat after the previous film reporter left to travel the world. But I wasn't given this job just because I was the only one available. (I wasn't available, really. I had to stop gathering nighclub news to get this gig.)
I've lived around film folks my entire life. My sister is a 20-plus year veteran of the industry. She's done a lot of work in Wilmington and even more elsewhere in the country. And I grew up with that around me.
Back in my high school days she even hired me to work on a few shows during the summers -- "Matlock" and the made-for-TV movie starring John Ritter, "Holy Joe."
I spent time in the production office at EUE/Screen Gems and, once in awhile, on location.
So I know the people, I know the business and I knew I wanted this beat.
Enjoy the site, use it to your advantage. And, most of all, connect with your fellow film freaks.
As always, let me know if you have any suggestions or comments on how we can make WilmOnFilm.com work better for you.

Gossip is just gossip. Unless it means something.

I just posted this entry on the StarNews' Arts & Entertainment blog, The WAE.

It's not really news, but it's kind of fun.

What do you guys think about this?

Will the recent change in government affect film incentives?

Yeah, I agree it's tricky...I would just like a place to be able to thumb thru some stories and find some local talent. Seems the best stuff comes along when I'm not even looking!

Amy,
First, awesome job with you and all entities involved in the creation of "WilmOnFilm". The site looks great and is proving to be wonderful tool in networking, showcasing filmmaker's work, information and yes sometimes as it seems, controversial items as well. Second, when giving people in the entertainment industry a stage and an audience, look out! Good luck to us all.
As someone once said, "It’s ALIVE!" But that is a good thing...
Don
