Cape Fear Community College Film and Video Production Department Currently offering a one year hand on, total emersion program and a six class certificate. Starting Fall 2009 we will be offering 2nd year classes that will apply to our two year associates degree slated to begin Spring 2010.
We are theory based course in that the students learn practical theory as applied to developing content, shooting and editing projects. The program begins with introductory courses in the fall using a building block style of learning, one project lends creative and technological skills to step up to the next project and build upon their skills learned into spring and summer classes; Students virtually begin producing content from week one in the fall and continue through the summer. The spring semester have dedicated times enlisting the skills our students have learned in a “Pro” style set. Our bigger projects have often brought in some local professionals to teach students various crew positions: Pro Grips, Gaffers, Make-up, Hair, Camera Opps, DP’s, AD’s and Producers to name some of the vast amount of local talent that have work on our sets. Our Student’s projects are shot exclusively in HD with our Panasonic HVX-200’s and JVC HD 100-U’s though we have been lucky enough to produce our last 2 “large” projects on a RED ONE using super 35mm film lenses. Students also shoot live events in SD including The “Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame”, Music events, CFCC Basketball, and other local sporting events and we are heavily involved with the “Cucalorus Film Festival” and “The Final Cut Film Festival”
Past projects have involved:
Port City P.D. (pilot only)
Turk Diamond
Halla-B-Loo’s
Make the Hit
Zeke’s on the Levee

At the Cape Fear Community College Film and Video Production Department, we have a very large grip department, now including now have a 25-foot camera Jib and an 8-foot camera Jib to get students moving the camera, as well as a trailer to haul our equipment to location.
The FVP Department is still in its infancy as we are wrapping up our 6th year. We are dedicated to helping young filmmakers begin the climb up the infinite ladder to becoming a Professional Film maker and or Crewmember. Who knows where we can get to in another 6!
